A Year in Words

Hello.

I think we need to start with: Wow… What a term!

This term has been a fantastic final term for our students and for Shelf Care.

We have spent time looking over our academic year and smiling at all the submissions we have received from our students – and we are proud of each and every student for their hard work, commitment, and engagement.

This month’s theme we chose ‘Identity’, and we challenged students to think and write about what identity really meant to them. Even though that can be quite thought-provoking, profound or philosophical, we were pleased to see some students put their feelings and ideas into words.

We have had a range of submissions from students who have showcased their excellent writing talents in lessons and no piece is too big or too small as you will see in this edition.

But that’s not all…

In the previous issue of Shelf Care, we did tease a new Summer Reading Competition and we have delivered on that too. As a teaser, we have set our students some reading challenges for over the summer. We want to hear all about their reading and promote the same buzz we have about summer, about reading. The best thing to do on a hot summer day? Grab a good book and take yourself to another world or a new adventure or journey. Want those outings to be more engaging? Listen to a good audiobook whilst you’re out on the go. When I see the sunshine and I don’t have to set an alarm, I think to myself, ‘today is going to be a great day.’ But that is also the same feeling that a book can bring. So, I implore everyone, to spend some of summer reading or listening or writing in one sense of another. Then brag about it! We love talking about all those things. We will always listen.

The new book club: Reading Your Heart Out will be officially launching in September. So keep those eyes peeled and look to our Shelf Care newsletter to find out more.

Did I say more? Because there is more…

Not only have we released our June Edition of Shelf Care, but we are also proud to have collated every single student submission since our first edition in December 2023 and turn it into a celebratory bumper edition of Shelf Care, aptly entitled ‘Shelf Care: A Year in Words.’  It is a staggering 31 pages of work!

We do hope you’ll join us in sharing our students’ successes from this academic year and continue to encourage great writers of us all!

Here’s to a Tuteally awesome term!
